Windsurfing: Ythan Estuary, Aberdeen Wind Direction: WSW Wind Stength: 18-25mph Surf / Sea State: Flat Air Temperature: Warm Sea Temperature: Cool Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 28 mph (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 16.4 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
The forecast was too good an oportunity to miss, so took a half day off
work. Arrived at the launch site to find Tom Gunn rigging up, and a
steadyish 20-25mph breeze, and glorious sunshine. Went home to get my kit
and returned 10 minutes later. Mark had arrived by this point, and 6.0 -
6.5m seemed to be the order of the day, so got the 6.3 Target rigged
pronto. First time out on my Syncro since repairing it, and was hoping that
the repair would hold up OK (it did - no problems showing, and hope it
stays that way!). Fantastic long blasts right up and down the estuary to
the big sand dune, and it was like this fully powered most of the time with
the odd lull here and there. At the sand dune end, the wind was funnelling
from the golf course which was becoming borderline overpowed. The water was
really flat, with only a few tiny bits of chop, so speed runs were the
order of the day - still not managed to break 30 mph though! It was really
nice to be out in the sun, sailing with friends and not freezing your nuts
off (which has been the case over the last few months). Bring it on!
